GRIFFIN SPOTZ, HEAD COACH, DIRECTOR of DIRTY BIRDS LACROSSE

Griffin Spotz is the head coach at Walton High School. He played his collegiate lacrosse at the University of Illinois when they were a top 20 team in Club Lacrosse, and was a stand out LSM. He studied Mathematics in college and got into teaching in Georgia in 2007. He started the Duluth High School Boy’s Lacrosse program from scratch and brought it from a brand new varsity team to a 10-6 record his final year there. The next year they improved further as his first class of players at Duluth were finally seniors. While at Duluth he coached the U17 and U11 teams for Team Crease Travel Club. The U11 team that summer won every tournament they entered in and earned a bid to the Dick’s National Tournament.  To date, that U11 team has at least 6 players on it that have ended up comitting to D1 programs!

He became the head coach at Walton High School in 2012 and in his first spring season, 2013, they went to the elite eight in the GHSA state playoffs. In 2013 he started the Dirty Birds to better fuel East Cobb Lacrosse in the spring seasons, and in 2014 Walton went to the Final Four. 2014 was a great season for Walton, being the first year that Walton beat Lambert, and only the second time Walton beat Lassiter (the first was the previous year in 2013).  In 2014 he was awarded Lacrosse Coach of the Year for Cobb County, and in 2019 the MDJ Coach of the Year!

Coach Spotz has now taken Walton Lacrosse to the Elite Eight in 4 of his 7 years as Head Coach, as well as 2 trips to the Final Four, including WINNING The State Championship in 2019! Coach Spotz has coached the 2022 class of Dirty Birds for 4 years, since they were U11, U13, and U14, and in the spring of 2018 those players won the 8th Grade Mayla State Championship!  He has also coached all other age groups for Dirty Birds Lacrosse.  Coach Spotz has has five Division 1 commits come out of Walton during his coaching tenure.

Coach Spotz is in his 11th year as Head Coach in the state of Georgia, and 8th year at the helm of Walton Lacrosse.  He resides in East Cobb with his wife and two children.
